Nails One By OneLying on the ground surrounded by withered flowers and twigs and thorns
I frown as one by one nails are driven into me each one by the hand of a friend
But I bear the burden in silence locking eyes with each of my antagonistic companions But now they’ve gathered long after the pain has faded and the nails have healed into my flesh and marrow They sing I scream But their song is not a comforting one nor is it calm but unified screeching drowns out my shouts In the mass of sounds my wounds reopen one by one and as my friends stare blankly ahead I cry out in unfathomable agony The pain that was b Nails One By One

I StandI stand Firmly pacing the competition with my eyes in cruel recognition of indifference My toes curl Pressed against an invisible line Others are strewn about solid palpable and flimsy insubstantial
My line is moving but without me taking a step I am always teetering on the edge The others around me step over the line without a second glance as if to laugh And I weep without tears My glass eyes go blank But I hold my place My friends my acquaintances my mirror image each in turn stare me down

I Am HomeMy eyes dart in panicked confusion I gasp for calm calamity Retreating to the shadows of my peers and I pray to see So I close my eyes and leave To a field of exotic flowers surrounded by protective oak trees Reaching out to block me from being seen The sun is warm on my face and the breeze combs my hair with delicate care and grace I lie down under the largest tree and I watch the time pass through the sparkling leaves And I am home A knot in my throat is choking me and teardrops make a path in the dark I sink down against my hope and I pray to see So I close my eyes and leave I Am Home
